THE WORLD IN 30 MINUTES
Ugly Veg – The Food-Waste Fiasco
30' (GER, ENG subs)
12 million tons of food are thrown away every year in Germany, the majority from private households - on average about 75 kilos per person.
Activists search supermarket trash containers in the middle of the night. What will they find whilst “dumpster diving"? Originally packaged food, still edible. For them, this is a scandal. They often distribute to the needy what they take out of the garbage cans. Food-sharing is becoming more and more in demand. What the self-proclaimed food salvagers do is just a drop in the ocean; in the end, it comes down to politics. But they are changing our awareness of the question: is food too good to throw away?
