The One Health Approach
A global effort to safeguard health across all species and ecosystems.
The health of humans, animals and the environment is closely interlinked and must be considered as a whole. If this balance is upset, diseases can arise that are transmitted from animals to humans and can develop into epidemics. Researchers from all over the world are currently working on an approach to deal with this problem - the so-called One Health approach. Everything is interconnected and the smallest changes can upset the structure and trigger diseases and even epidemics. Human health can no longer be viewed in isolation. Animals and humans share habitats, climatic and environmental conditions - and many pathogens. Animal species around the world are therefore being tested for pathogens and this data is being collected and evaluated so that we can react quickly if necessary to prevent epidemics.
