The vehicles are world-famous, much sought after by collectors, idolized by car fans. We are talking about the Mercedes-Benz 540K, built from 1936 to 1938. For some, these cars represent the ultimate in vehicle design; the flowing lines of the body are pure sensuality. But little is known about one forgotten version of the limousines. A prototype is being developed in the special vehicle production unit in Sindelfingen: the 540K Streamliner. Built in 1938, this car marks a milestone in aerodynamics. Radiators set at a streamlined angle, a flat driver’s cab – a car far ahead of its time. Only the wings remind us of its famous relatives. The people at Mercedes-Benz Classic have now decided to resurrect this rare vehicle: a Mercedes-Benz 540K Streamliner. A mammoth project lies ahead of them. Italy, the Netherlands, Stuttgart – the stages leading up to a very special appearance: the test drive on the high-speed circuit in Papenburg. This is where the car is set to show just what it can do.
