Night Trains: Challenges of a Revival

Driven by the desire for green mobility, more and more people want to travel by train instead of by plane - even over long distances.

The solution: the night train. However, after years of cancelling night train connections, a comeback is difficult: there is a lack of carriages, the trains are too old and the level of comfort does not meet today's standards. In the midst of this, there are night train fans who want to change this. Elmer van Buuren runs the night train start-up European Sleeper. His motto: a new line every year. His company currently operates a night train line from Brussels to Berlin. Now he can finally extend it to Prague. But he is struggling with the harsh reality of night train transport, which is exemplary for the industry. A reality that casts doubt on whether night trains can really replace many flight connections.
