Croatia’s Brijuni Islands: Tito's Wild Legacy

Some paradises do not come about by themselves. The Brijuni Archipelago off the coast of Istria is one such place.

More than a century ago, the Austrian industrialist Paul Kupelwieser transformed the malaria-ridden islands into a fashionable holiday destination. Later, Brijuni became the exclusive summer residence of the Yugoslav leader Tito. His state guests also left their mark on the safari park: some of the exotic animals they gifted still live there today. Today, Brijuni is a national park, preserving this natural and cultural heritage for future generations. The film tells the story of an extraordinary archipelago, shaped by generations of people and still shaped by its history to this day.
