Turkey - Beautiful Diversity
Turkey is a country of stark contrasts: charming coastal areas with their almost tropical climates are juxtaposed with the rugged nature of the hinterland; modern cities on the one hand, cultural sites that are thousands of years old on the other.
This is a five part journey through Turkey, spanning two continents, promising to involve exciting encounters with people who seem both familiar and at the same time sometimes appear to come from a different world altogether. Discover a country whose remarkable diversity has never been shown on television before in this way!
Follow us on a journey from south-eastern Europe to western Asia. This journey, spanning two continents, promises to involve exciting encounters with people who seem both familiar and, at the same time, foreign to us, and who sometimes even appear to come from a different world altogether. We learn about the chequered history of the peoples of Turkey, a history that is both visible and tangible everywhere you go. We take a look at details without losing track of the overall picture, and so discover a country whose remarkable diversity has never been shown on television before in this way.

Episodes
-
The Mediterranean Coast
The 1st episode of the ARTE series "Adventure Turkey" shows the Mediterranean region: blossoming orchards, olive groves and "still" untouched nature frame historical treasures. In this environment, tradition and modernity engage in a daily confrontation. Is it better to preserve old craft traditions? Can they be brought into the modern age? Sabine Howe meets women who are swimming free, men who are clinging on - but above all people who are trying anew every day to resolve this question for themselves.
-
Cappadocia and Southeastern Anatolia
The 2nd episode starts in Central Anatolia, goes through Cappadocia and ends near the Syrian border. Those who set off from Antalya on the coast inland will reach Isparta. In the rose-growing region, author Nadja Frenz is intoxicated by the intense scent of the Damascene rose, in Konya she meets the dancing Dervishes and discovers the fairytale landscape of Cappadocia. The journey ends with homemade liqueurs in Samandağ, where Christians, Jews, Alewites and Sunnis still live in peaceful harmony - just a few kilometers from the Syrian border.
-
East Anatolia
-
The Black Sea Coast
The 4th episode takes us along the Black Sea coast. Author Claudia Wallbrecht uncovers the secret of the Tulum, a very special type of bagpipe, and accompanies a forest beekeeper on breakneck climbing adventures in the name of honey. The eastern Black Sea region borders on Georgia and Armenia, and here cultures, languages and ethnic groups have been mixing for centuries: for example, Hemşin, Lasen and the descendants of Pontic Greeks. They all shape the region - and this episode - with their music, architecture, food and ancient customs.
-
Istanbul
The 5th part of "Adventure Turkey" throws itself into the middle of the hustle and bustle of Istanbul! Against the backdrop of the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus, the Arte team experiences lonely hearts in search of connection, spraying artists who make the city more colorful, calligraphers who preserve the old. They meet modern women with creative minds and conservative women with creative minds, fathom coffee law reading and get intoxicated by Fasil singing.
