The Whip Fighters of Indonesia
45' (ENG, GER)
An Indonesian tradition at a crossroads.
With brutal winters plunging to -40°C, the mighty St. Lawrence River freezes solid—setting the stage for adrenaline-pumping ice canoe races. The documentary follows canoeist Sophie Asselin and her team as they train and compete in this unique winter sport. North of Quebec City, vast wilderness takes over: the Taiga is home to caribou, wolves and Jean-Luc Kanapé, a Cree First Nation Wildlife Guardian, who fights to protect the dwindling herds. Further north, in the remote Inuit settlements of Nunavik, life continues without roads and under layers of snow. From family ice-fishing traditions to air supplies in isolated villages, this film is a journey through a land where winter rules.
