Hope for Philippines’ Fishermen: A Future despite Empty Nets

45' (ENG, GER)

They are on the hunt, fishing for tuna and scavenging for mussels in the monsoon rains, struggling with the effects of the pandemic and trying to save money to escape the cycle of poverty: The fishermen of the Philippines.

We follow the fisherman Robinson Lucito and his wife, Minerva, from the Gulf of Lagonoy. They are just one example of many, that show how the dramatic consequences of climate change, overfishing and the destruction of reefs are affecting the ways of life of fishermen. But despite all the difficulties, and despite how much the family has to struggle to wrestle something out of life, the Lucitos don't let their courage, their optimism and their love for the sea be taken away from them.
