Surviving Globalism
The US and China are in fierce competition. Others are catching up. How can we survive—and even thrive—in a globalized world?
When Apple boss Steve Jobs presented the iPhone in 2007, hardly anyone could have guessed how it would change the world. Today, almost everyone carries their digital life in their pocket. Countries and companies cooperate successfully to make smartphones possible in the first place. The supply chain is as global as the communication that runs on these devices. Yet, geopolitical tensions between the superpowers USA and China are rising. Global production is no longer just about finding the best and cheapest production conditions; it has also become a matter of risk management and fierce competition for global leadership. Is globalization fundamentally in crisis? While in old Europe developments seem increasingly complicated, new possibilities arrise on other continents. The roles of winners and losers are being redistributed. And those who don’t play along lose.
