The Mediterranean Sea is crisscrossed by traffics of every kind, some legal, others lethal.
Over the last five years the filmers have been gathering the elements of a tragic and terrifying story of merchants of death. Lethal cargo can take the form of poisons sunk into depths of the sea, or of desperate human beings milked of their wealth and packed into leaky boats, or weapons – such as Syria’s chemical weapons transported to Italy to be decommissioned in special US Navy ships. Drugs are of course the trail blazer for all traffics in the Mediterranean. With privileged access to the Police investigators, Coast Guard (surface and air units) and Navy of Italy, France, Spain and Greece and in the light of the renewed Europe-wide agreement on policing the Mediterranean, the producers propose a four part series on the crossroads of death in the Mediterranean: Lethal Cargo.
