From classical antiquity stemmed a veritable amount of worldly wisdom. In this series we will see how the works of Socrates, Seneca and other philosophers have translated into modern life.
Nietzsche, who structured his life on the notion of being true to himself, had imbibed the teachings of this time. His principle - getting to know oneself - is the key to living an authentic life. In this series, we will encounter people, who have based their lives on philosophical ideas, who found their selves, love and happiness.
How does one build the “self”? What is love? Is it possible to live happily? – How? These are the questions that we try throughout our entire lives to answer and that lay at the heart of the philosophies of classical antiquity. Theory, however, is ineffectual in providing answers - answers come through practice. Socrates, Seneca, Nietzsche, philosophers and connoisseurs of the art of living have found these answers. The philosophies of classical antiquity are currently shaping our lives.
The French philosopher, Michel Foucault, believes that from the practice of classical antiquity one will be able to bring structure to one’s life. By simply applying the practices of this period to our lives, we can live a thrilling life, build the self and ultimately invite excitement into our dreary existence. This three part documentary series explores Nietzsche’s how to be yourself, Socrates and Diotoma’s the art of love and Seneca teachings on the flow of life.
